Sega’s early mascot returns for his final Master System outing, released a year after his Genesis debut (and finale). A funny spoof on another Sega franchise, Shinobi World is still a fun game to play. It’s a bit on the easy side, but it’s worth checking out… if you’re willing to pay the prices it goes for nowadays.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Originally hailed as a rival to Super Mario Bros. Alex Kidd in Miracle spawned a series that extended to the Genesis. Though it wasn’t as popular as Mario, the franchise is still well-regarded among Sega fans who loved its vehicles, colorful levels, and wacky boss battles. With a big heart and an even bigger punch, original game has become a bona fide Sega classic. Jan-ken-pon!

Take Alex Kidd, for example. Once the unofficial face of Sega and the star of a half dozen adventures, he was laid low by a Sonic boom in 1991. But did he really have to disappear? Was he just the victim of circumstance, or did Sega consciously kill him off?
