Sex and video games go way back, and every game publisher has found a way to combine the two. Sega went farther than most did in its print advertising, particularly in Europe, and by the late ’90s its ads were quite daring. By the turn of the century, game ads had become raunchier and more provocative. We take a look at the history of sex in Sega’s print advertising, and discuss its impact.
Regardless of the quality of his recent games, no one can doubt that Sonic The Hedgehog is widely recognized. In fact, the Blue Blur was once more familiar to children than both Mario and Mickey Mouse! His fans are still found far and wide, and recently, many of them came together earlier this month in London, England to celebrate a Sega-sponsored event in his honor. We’ve already covered the lengthy game history of Sonic The Hedgehog, but he’s also had a noteworthy career in comic books and cartoons as well. Over the span of his fifteen year career, the famous mammal has appeared in several animated series and a flurry of comic books, including the long-running Archie Comics series (currently at almost 170 issues and counting).
