The Sega CD has a great selection of RPGs, but most were sadly left in Japan. Those willing to brave the language barrier should consider playing Shin Megami Tensei, an installment in the long-running and popular series that was never brought to the West. Crime Patrol

The Sega CD has a vast library of FMV games, and while most tend to associate the machine with Digital Pictures, other companies produced titles as well. American Laser Games contributed several games, including the hilariously campy Crime Patrol. It’s goofy FMV action at its best!

Looking for a puzzle-solving, sci-fi thriller for your Sega CD? Iron Helix may be your game. Combining the interface of a graphic adventure with full-motion video cut scenes and puzzle elements, the game offers an experience uncommon on the platform. It may not be as deep as later titles, such as “D” and “Enemy Zero,” but it’s definitely worth playing.

Ecco: The Tides of Time (CD)

The Ecco the Dolphin series is one that many people love and enjoy, given its intriguing gameplay and incredible atmosphere. The games showed their potential on the Sega CD, adding stunning soundtracks and video sequences. Tides of Time was a great example of the power of CD being used to make a great game even better.
