Before Genesis gamers had the chance to be disappointed by the plodding and frustrating gameplay of Heavy Nova, Micronet unleashed the game to Japanese Mega CD owners. As one would imagine, it was the same bad game embellished with a CD soundtrack, giving importers very little reason to trade up from their cartridge version. Heavy Nova is bad, no matter on what format it appears.
Sierra came up with an offbeat take on basketball that unfortunately doesn’t execute as well as it should. An interesting concept that stands out among other Sega CD titles, Bouncers unfortunately falls flat due to uninspired gameplay and an overall lack of depth. It might still be worth looking into for the novelty factor but not much beyond that.
Just because the Cold War has ended doesn’t mean we still can’t defend U.S. interests through the barrel of a gun! Well, we can in spirit, anyway. Absolute Entertainment’s first-person action title for the Sega CD tires to continue the fight with some mission-based combat, but it falls short in some key areas. Still, it might be worth checking out for those looking for a new disc to spin in their machines.
A PC classic comes to the Sega CD in great form! Despite some control adjustments and a large memory footprint, Dungeon Master 2 maintains everything that made it so popular on computers, and it gives Sega CD gamers a chance to dive into perhaps the largest RPGs ever released on the machine. A word to the wise though: bring a Mega Mouse or a six-button controller.
Game Arts crafted a graphic adventure that is sure to please fans of the classic cartoon on which it’s based thanks to some great comedy and some of the best animation on the Sega CD. Anime and manga fans will enjoy seeing Lum and friends come to the Mega CD in smart and quirky adventure. Don’t let the language barrier keep you away from what is one of the best games of its type.
