Known for his work on over 150 Magic: The Gathering cards, Dungeons and Dragons source books, and scores of other brands, artist Randy Gallegos is now bringing his own history with gaming to a series called “Hearts for Hardware,” creating art based on his particular experiences and impressions with the hobby.
The classic Berenstain Bears made two appearances in the “Sega Club” line of children’s games for the Genesis and Game Gear, and both titles are fun little romps, with the Game Gear version being the more engaging of the two. Simple to play but not as easy as one would expect from a children’s game, it’s well suited for Sega’s portable.
Brett Weiss’s Classic Home Video Games book series offers short and sweet entries on the complete libraries of some of gaming’s most famous consoles. The third volume in the series covers the Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and Neo Geo; and it serves as an excellent reference for game historians and newcomers to gaming alike.
DotEmu and Lizardcube are hard at work on a full HD remake of of the Master System and TG-16 classic Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. Developed in tandem with the movie, the Game Gear Surf Ninjas game is recognized for being the first tie-in release completed before its license. That’s about all it has going for it though, as stiff and repetitive gameplay and bland design bring it down almost the level of the movie.
