Based on the famous Fist of the Northstar anime and released as one of the earliest Genesis titles, Last Battle is something of a “love it or hate it” game. A mediocre action title from defunct developer Sage’s Creation, Shadow Blasters offered little in the way of variety or presentation. It’s worth a look, at least for the half hour it lasts, but those looking for a deeper experience should definitely look elsewhere.

Rolling Thunder 2 takes just about everything the original did well and does it better. Sharper and more detailed graphics, a greater variety of weapons, smarter and more plentiful enemies; all make for a great sequel. Namco adopted an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality here, leaving the game play intact.
