This short Interview with Sonic designer Naoto Ōhshima appeared in issue #23 of the Spanish game magazine Hobby Consolas. While it doesn’t share any new information, it does give a bit more perspective into Ōhshima’s thoughts on Sonic’s evolution and his role in his rise to stardom.

This interview with Sega Producer Katsuhisa (Katsu) Sato was published in the August 1996 issue of the Spanish game magazine Hobby Consolas. In it, Sato discusses Sonic’s move to 3D and Traveler’s Tales’ role in bringing the rendered images and pseudo-3D gameplay to Sega’s 16-bit hardware.
Sonic had several outings on the Master System, some good and some bad. Sonic Chaos falls somewhere in the middle. Feeling more like basic training than a challenge, the game never really seems to get going. The result will leave many wanting more.
After an absence on the Saturn, Sonic returned on the Dreamcast with a new platform adventure. It was hailed and welcomed by many at the time, but the Blue Blur still had a lot of adjusting to do in the third dimension. A disjointed plot and a problematic camera keep Sonic’s first proper 3D outing from being a true classic.
Long before he was racing against all-stars on modern consoles, Sonic was burning rubber and drifting around tracks on the Game Gear. The first Sonic Drift game only saw a release in Japan, but it’s worth tracking down and adding to your library, despite its limited roster and track count.
