Between the beach and all those other outdoor activities, time needs to be taken for what’s important: video games! The outdoors are nice and all, but who are we kidding? The Caped Crusader has long suffered a mixed history when it comes to video games. Some are good, and some are bad. Some, like Batman Forever, are downright horrible. Probe and Acclaim managed to distinguish themselves by making a terrible game across multiple platforms, and the Game Gear version is part of that unfortunate line.
The Genesis isn’t wanting for golf games, and there are enough around for the average fan to find one that suits a personal preference. U.S. Gold’s World Class Leaderboard Golf is a decent entry into the genre, but it lacks the presentation that could have put it in the upper tier of console golf games. Still if you’re a fan, it’s worth some playtime.
Sonic The Hedgehog’s first adventure on the Master System was quite different than the on the Genesis. Developed by Yuzo Koshiro’s studio Ancient (and featuring some great music), it’s an excellent rendition that doesn’t try to be more than its hardware will allow, and it’s pretty much a new game. If you’ve already played Sonic to death but still haven’t tried it on the Master System, you’re missing out.
Sega fans had the Shinobi series, and there were always comparisons between it and Ninja Gaiden on the NES. While both are great, Sega fans actually got the better end of the deal. Ninja Gaiden made appearances on the PAL Master System and on the Game Gear. The MS version is as good as you’d expect and well worth tracking down.
