Video game tournaments are nothing new, and Sega has been holding them since the 1970s. One of its first big competitions included the hit game Head-On, where Japanese players competed for prizes. The event helped show the popularity of video games worldwide.
The month of May saw the eight edition of the German Mega Drive Championship! For almost a decade, these fine people have gathered yearly to see which among them will be crowned king of everything 16-bit. This year was no exception, and there were plenty on hand to witness the coronation of a new champion!

In June 2012, a group of Mega Drive fans united in Braga, Portugal to select a champion. After several hours and a ton of fun, the winners were named and prizes given, and there were many happy fans to be found. Read our coverage of this year’s tournament for all the details.
